„Datcha live“ was produced in the garden allotment „Hafenwiese“ in Dortmund. Artists turned the gardens into their performance fields. Owners were included in the parcours which lead alongside more than 200 gardens. It was a synergy between participation, intervention and artistic curiosities.
We worked together with the owners and leasers who have their personal paradise, a “sanctuary” individually arranged, in the allotment gardens. We were creating performances with professional dancers and other artists as well as elements and pictures of other cultures and “paradises”. This is how you can for example achieve a mixture of stereotypes and European prejudices and romantic use: Hula dance and Hawaiianmusic eye to eye with the traditional forms of the creation´s place.
The performances took place on lawns, in front gardens, on alleys, in houses; the artists and assistants are always close to the audience. The residents and gardeners of the place present their little paradise, the idyll in the suburban area or in the middle of a city – refuge or recreation; it is a mixture of authenticity and intervention.
